Jean Reinhardt (23 January 1910 – 16 May 1953) stage name Django Reinhardt (French: or ), was a Belgian-born Romani-French jazz guitarist and composer, regarded as one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century. He was the first jazz talent to emerge from Europe and remains the most significant. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli, Reinhardt formed the Paris-based Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934.

Reinhardt and Grappelli were also the first major jazz musicians from Europe and the music that they created in their string group (with two rhythm guitarist and a bassist) could out-swing nearly all of the ensembles of the time. Although it would be preferred to have all 20 of their early recordings (all of which could have fit on this single CD), what is here is wonderful, with the highlights including "Dinah," "Tiger Rag," "Blue Drag," "Avalon," "I've Had My Moments," and "Djangology.
