Eugene Chadbourne in Aarhus, Denmark, 2015. Chadbourne was born in Mount Vernon, New York, but grew up in Boulder, Colorado. He started playing guitar when he was eleven or twelve, inspired by the Beatles and hoping to get the attention of girls. Although he was drawn to Jimi Hendrix and played in a garage band, he found rock and pop music too conventional. He gravitated to the avant-garde jazz of Anthony Braxton and Derek Bailey  . A notable solo album, Songs (Intakt, 1993), featured politically oriented originals, such as "Knock on the Door" and "Hello Ceausescu", and covers, such as Nick Drake's "Thoughts of Mary Jane", and Floyd Tillman's "This Cold War With You". LSD C&W – The History of the Chadbournes in America (Fundamental, 1987). Kill Eugene (Placebo, 1987).

On his compulsive own, Eugene Chadbourne (previously the guitarist and leader of Shockabilly) has spewed forth a ceaseless stream of records and cassettes (the latter on his own Parachute label) that easily represent the oddest version of country and folk music ever. While the notable left-winger's guitar playing is looser than clams, it harbors wildly unique energy.

Biography by Jason Ankeny. Avant-garde singer-guitarist with vast body of work who has earned a following in the indie rock world. There'll Be No Tears T. ugene Chadbourne. Hearing Is Believing. History of the Chadbou. ee Full Discography.

Chadbourne was quite unique in the history of music for being at the same time an avantgarde composer in the classical tradition, a jazz improviser, a folk musician and a member of a rock band. Only Frank Zappa could compete with such eclecticism. The rest of the album is covers and protest songs. His live performances also included People Want Everything (1986), for octet of "musicians from widely diverse genres", and The Cadaver (1989), for corpse made of junk instruments (to be dissected on stage).

Chadbourne invented an instrument known as the electric rake by attaching an electric guitar pickup to a rake4 He played a duet of electric rake and classical piano with Bob Wiseman on Wiseman's 1991 album Presented by Lake Michigan Soda He also played the instrument on a Sun Ra tribute album.

This is a very good high-quality release from Chadbourne, among his best of late for Leo Records.
