My copy came warped and pressed way off center. Sound quality is mediocre. Even the artwork is kind of blurry. There are better options than this.

"There are no sythesizers on this record". A most interesting and very well done album by Iggy.
  • Windworker
"Watching the News" and "Horse Song" are two of my favorite tracks. Awesome album.

"Zombie Birdhouse" is my favourite of all Iggy's solo albums. It flies under the radar of many Iggy fans, surprisingly. To me, it's his purest, most "Iggy" album. One of my Desert Island Discs!

Probably one of the most personnal achievment of the Iguana!A perfect travel in his imaginary world for the least.A finaly freed free man of many production manierism of all the famous guy who'd work with him before this album..Back to the wild side!! Zombie Birdhouse rocks, throbs, exhilarates. In fact it is the opposite of chin wagging, pontificating, audiophile criticism. That is, exactly what I've been writing. But chin wagging offers a sure sign that there is something going on here, something the history books either have forgotten, or haven't gotten round to as yet. Either way, I am here to say don't hesitate to pick up a copy of Zombie Birdhouse. Joy Division on Ecstasy.

this belongs with Iggy Pop's greatest post-Stooges efforts. It marks the end of the 2nd chapter in his career. After the Stooges Iggy, assisted by David Bowie, put out Lust for Life and later The Idiot. They are probably essential listening for any music fan, as they are not only a great batch of songs, they represent a significant and fertile period for both artists, along with Lou Reed and Brian Eno, living and working in Berlin.Lust for Life and The Idiot are the records history and critics remember most, and in 1996 when Danny Boyle sprayed the audiences of his film "Trainspotting" with the title track "Lust For Life" it shot Iggy Pop back into relevance, in my opinion. Iggy Pop never left, managing a record every couple of years- No Fun, Soldier, Blah Blah Blah, Brick by Brick. Live stuff, E.P.'s. Iggy Pop is nothing, if not prolific, but none of these albums registered with the public, and, certainly by the time of Brick by Brick, seemed to want to be relevant. Maybe it was the music's irrelevance that stood out.Where inspiration and ideas fail pull out Metal. In 1982, only 5 years after their release RCA reissued them as a 2 LP set. They were that good, they were of a set, and nothing else Iggy Pop before or after shone quite as bright. Now, certainly for true music fans there is more to Iggy Pop's catalog, and to have History claim even two of one's recording's as noteworthy is more than most can ask for, but I think there's more to be had. And the true historian, musicologist or music fan tries to go beyond what is offered in the history books, i.e. Top 100,1000, Best Ever! lists.Iggy Pop isn't a solo artist, his work happens in collaboration with others, and the success arises out of the strength of that collaboration.James Williamson, the Asheton brothers, Bowie. And add to that list Chris Stein. The founder and one of the leaders of Blondie, Chris Stein brings his brand of intensity and refinement to Iggy Pop's raw energy. The music is tight and well crafted, even polished in it's own way. These are the traits of pop, the ones that Stein crafted in to the shimmering, sensuous and funky vibe in Blondie. On Zombie Birdhouse one can hear similar dancing rhythms and chiming guitars characteristic of 80's new wave and post new wave. It growls and throbs, it's persistent and insistent. The cover photo, of a languid Iggy relaxing at an outdoor cafe somewhere in the Caribbean echoes the mood of the tunes, as well. The music is the sound of men possessed, or looking for it, prowling through a Caribbean night. Humidity, darkness, spirits of lust, voodoun , pulsing urgency. " There are no synthesizers on this record." is written toward the end of the credits, and says a few things about this record. In 1982 synthesizers were coming to dominate music and everything was effected. The tone, the style, and the directions. Those synthetic sounds leant themselves to crafting music more about texture with rhythm.Stein and Iggy stick to their guitars and kick drums in pure Luddite fashion, pulling tones and textures out of their instruments no one expected. That proclamation also portends a set of songs that set us on a journey, send us to a mysterious, maybe sinister place. This is a record that is more than the sum of its parts. Zombie Birdhouse is a record that for many reasons deserves recognition not only from fans of Iggy Pop, but from those who defer to the Canon, and help make it. It is a high point in the artist's career, and one of the few where he was able to get at what made an LP liek Lust for Kife works so well. It's the work of an artist(s) on a journey, a journey that is penetrating, that offers insight, an epiphany.. It pulses like a dance record, stirs deeper waters like a Bauhaus record, and holds together like a classic it deserves to become.
