Original album was "The New Boss Guitar of George Benson " (Prestige 7310) The second half "Hot Barbeque!" (Prestige 7422)is one of the many fine McDuff releases that feature top notch organ jazz of the 60's that some might find it dated or opportune for your Madman party, I just find it hits the sweet spot,as it has since the Soul Jazz Days when organ outfits like this were plenty, but no better than McDuff's Bands & releases.

Primarily self-taught and ear-trained, he made great strides in a five-year period around his native Pittsburgh, working with organist Jack McDuff on the East Coast chitlin circuit. As the soul-jazz and boogaloo movement was establishing itself, Benson was right in the pocket, as these seminal mid-'60s sessions perfectly illustrate.
