Ralph Benatzky's In Weissen Rössl (The White Horse Inn) was a late entry in the "Golden Age of Operetta. It debuted in 1930, and some of its popularly oriented hits - some penned by composers other than Benatzky himself - were written with a light jazzy flavor, the rest being rendered in a tone more reflective of the traditional approach to Viennese operetta at the time. Singer Peter Alexander, arguably the most popular singer/actor in the history of Austria, appeared in a popular film version of In Weissen Rössl in 1960; this studio recording with Alexander was made in 1971, slightly pre-dating his long running television variety show, which aired from 1972 into the mid-'90s. Although it features some fine singers among the cast, including Ingeborg Hallstein, Rudolf Schock, and Erika Köth, this recording of In Weissen Rössl sounds just like a television track.

Im Weissen Rössl is a famous light opera in three acts by Ralph Benatzky. Some of the musical interludes were written by Robert Stolz and Robert Gilbert. Melodienfolge aus dem gleichnamigen Singspiel von Ralph Benatzky (1884-1957). Composer: Ralph Benatzky, Robert Stolz. Arranger: Stefan Schwalgin. Lyricist: Robert Gilbert.

The operetta of the same name by Ralph Benatzky as well as the film with Peter Alexander as head waiter Leopold made the White Horse Inn world-famous and still attract guests from all over the world. Spend your holidays where the legendary comedy was filmed and experience the original settings during your stay in St. Wolfgang. According to a quote from the film, luck cannot only be found in the hotel but also right outside the door. The Wolfgangsee region and the Salzkammergut can hardly be beat when it comes to beauty and diversity.
