Plaint of Lapwing is the fruit of a two year collaboration and burgeoning friendship. Green drew on a variety of instruments to build on Roberts' beautiful songwriting, perhaps most notably the harmoniflute, somewhere between a harmonium and an accordion. The result is an album of intimate and entrancing folk. The LPs are hand numbered with gorgeous packaging by Frances Castle.
Send it to ti. onesopolis. Alasdair Roberts & James Green - Plaint of Lapwing. Arcane folk of the weirdest hue, achieved by computers. Since first appearing in the 90s with his Appendix Out group, then under his own name with 2001’s The Night Is Advancing, Scottish folk forager Alasdair Roberts has charted a relentless voyage of solo albums, collaborations and side projects such as contributing his country’s folk songs to the venerable Alan Lomax Archive. Starting in 2012 with Roberts sending songs left over from his A Wonder Working Stone album, the pair’s online working relationship led to a record growing organically out of their file-sharing over the following two years. Soon, Roberts was sending Green arrangements of Irish poet Thomas Moore and lyrics by beekeeping Cornish filmmaker Timothy Neat as the magic continued to swell.
