It is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. The song was first performed on their 1974 French tour, and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here.

Listening to this song now, It's sad that one of the founders of insanity- and acid-inspired psychedelic music had died. I guess Syd never had an easy life; all the LSD and stardom turned him into a troubled man, gripped by insanity and trips. We'll never see another mind like Syd's.
