Melbourne four-piece RVG give their emotional, Australian-tinged ballad music a complete release with this A Quality Of Mercy album. It's hard not to feel the ghost of Michael Hutchence inside the group's vocals, with thick strips of Australiana rock permeating the core of RVG's instrumentality. Released on a limited white vinyl, the LP opens with the grand gesture that is its title track, replete with horns, crashing cymbals and walls of guitars.

That's All When RVG first self-released their debut LP, A Quality Of Mercy, there was no press release. No proper band photo. No narrative to forward. Instead, there were just two guitars, bass, drums. Songs hitting that sweet spot between light and dark, employing guitars both angular and jangling. Songs passionately sung by Romy Vager, the eponymous leader of a band once called, in full, Romy Vager Group. Vager had arrived in Melbourne, from Adelaide, in full Goth wardrobe, as a teenage runaway. Her first band, Sooky La La, was built on anger, discordance, screaming. They found no following, and routinely cleared rooms.

Debut album from Australian punk band RVG drawing on an array of influences from Echo and the Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs, and The Go Betweens. A Quality of Mercy is made up of Eight songs. Songs recorded by the band, live off the floor, at Melbourne’s iconic rock’n’roll pub, The Tote. All of the songs on A Quality Of Mercy find Vager trying to move beyond ego, beyond the simple confessional of the songwriter, hoping to find perspective on both world and self. In such, these songs are at once personal and universal, intimate and grand, timely and timeless. They’re classic songs. And there’s eight of them.

The Quality of Mercy is a studio album from English rock band Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. Led by Steve Harley, the band's line-up consisted of new musicians compared to the last Cockney Rebel album. The album was released on CD in the UK and Norway only, through Gott Discs, whilst Pinnacle Records handled the album's distribution within the U. .In an interview with icLiverpool, a month before the album's release, Harley stated that he had some sudden flashes of inspiration when writing the new album. Suddenly that inspiration is there and you go for broke – I managed to write seven or eight songs in about a month. In a Record Collector Interview with Nick Dalton during June 2005, Harley was asked what was new with his music and Harley replied "My first DVD is out and I'm recording The Quality of Mercy.

nice packaging, heavy vinyl, but for anyone familiar with the album, this is slightly strange -- in the process of turning over the record, it feels like six songs are missed, with a resulting dip in emotional resonance. obviously it won't happen, but i have a little fantasy of there being cause and effect/feral beach, IBM/vincent van gogh, and heart paste/the eggshell world 12"s too, to make a juke box flip-over style version of the album.
  • Vetitc
fat possum are putting out the LP in july. i imagine this is primarily something to sell while touring in may, allowing a longer run-up in which to do press for the album, but the 12" will be superfluous as soon as the LP is out.
  • Barit
Yeah, seems odd to press a 12" with just two tracks from the LP rather than doing a proper reissue of the whole LP for the European market.
