Listen free to Procol Harum – BBC Live in Concert (Conquistador, Bringing Home The Bacon and more). Recorded live for the BBC in March of 1974, this is the only official live document from the later, . Chrysalis, version of Procol Harum, as well as the band's lone concert recording without orchestral accompaniment. The show also catches the double keyboard British quintet at an auspicious time; the album they were touring behind, Exotic Birds and Fruit would prove to be the final Procol release where the band was firing on all cylinders

Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, by the English band Procol Harum together with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, was released in 1972; it was recorded at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 18 November 1971. The album was very successful on the Billboard Top 200, peaking at No. 5. It is the band's best-selling album, certified Gold by the RIAA.

Despite all its faults, BBC Live In Concert captures the essence and the excitement of a live Procol Harum performance. I've seen them many times and each time the band, both as a group and individually, has never failed to give its all. And this CD is no exception. 4 people found this helpful. Hearing so much of the Exotic Birds and Fruit album performed live is a special treat as this is some of their best work during the period and provides a fresh alternative to the reverb effect, studio version. But just listen to Whaling Stories, stripped down to its bare essentials and building to a chaotic climax - altogether breathtaking!

This whole album was an afterthought - Procol Harum had been invited to play a concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Da Camera Singers in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in August of 1971, at the tail-end of their last tour with Robin Trower in the lineup. record the performance; the label agreed with just a week to go until the concert. Even "Conquistador," the song on which the resulting album's commercial success was built, was added at the last minute, with no time for the orchestra to rehearse the arrangement that Brooker wrote on the flight from England. They did it cold, opening the concert, and the eventual album featured a performance - highlighted by the orchestra's brass in a Spanish mode, running scales on the strings, and . Wilson's powerful drumming - helped loft the single to number 16 in America.

On this album, Procol Harum use the orchestra simply as an additional band member. Others such as Caravan ("& the new Symphonia"), Yes ("Yessymphonic"), and the Moody Blues ("Red Rocks"), have successfully done so since in a live environment, but for me, PH were the first. The appeal of this album is enhanced significantly by the track selection. The album was released in April 1972 through Chrysalis Records. The album was recorded at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on the 18th of November 1971 in front of a capacity audience of 3000.
