Burns worked with numerous other musicians. Stan Getz was featured as a tenor saxophone soloist on "Early Autumn", a huge hit for the band and the launching platform for Getz's solo career. Burns also worked in a small band with soloists including Bill Harris and Charlie Ventura. The success of the Herman band provided Burns the ability to record under his own name in the 1950s. In the 1950s Burns played nightly from 5pm -9pm in The Baroque Room at Oscar's Delmonico restaurant in Downtown Manhattan. Burns was responsible for the arrangement and introduction of a string orchestra on two of Ray Charles's biggest hits, "Come Rain or Come Shine" and "Georgia on My Mind". In the 1990s, Burns arranged music for Mel Tormé, John Pizzarelli, Michael Feinstein and Tony Bennett.

The album included the following session artists: Bass. Photography By. Herman Leonard. Supervised By. Norman Granz. All materials are provided for educational purposes. Tracklist of Bill Harris And His Orchestra, Chubby Jackson, Ralph Burns on this page

CJ: His cymbals to a C. He had a special cymbal for tenor when Flip would play, he had another cymbal on that same cymbal with Bill Harris, he had an ensemble cymbal, you know the one with the nuts and bolts in it. He'd taken it all out but one. And he'd make like he was cutting a piece of pie, and it didn't have that, but it had First note, one-two - four. I said you know I've been playing all these Ralph Burns things, Neil Hefti. I said look at this bass part. He came on, this little guy, and went, "von-two-three-four. He let every one of us play what we felt. I mean like Bill Harris. You like playing it that way? Go ahead.
