Melancholia is a concept from ancient or pre-modern medicine. Melancholy was one of the four temperaments matching the four humours. In the 19th century, "melancholia" could be physical as well as mental, and melancholic conditions were classified as such by their common cause rather than by their properties.

Melancholia is a hardcore punk music album recording by CENTURY released in 2001 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. CENTURY - Melancholia. com - the ultimate metal music online community, from the creators of progarchives. Filed under Hardcore Punk By CENTURY.

I've never understood the appeal of gothic metal bands with gloomy singers. I get that it adds to the atmosphere of the music, giving it a sense of doom and fear, but damn... it just sounds so dull and uninspiring.Take Century, for example. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting a German gothic band by the name of "Century" to set the world on fire, but the music itself is certainly well-written, with some great interplay between guitars and keyboards to produce some catchy and energetic melodies. And then the vocals come in.Now, I hate to rip on anyone (much), but Michael Rohr has a vocal range of approximately four different notes. Honestly, it sounds so lifeless and bland. Literally every song has the same vocal melodies. He sounds like the best friend that wanted to be in the band but couldn't really do anything. It's grating to my ears, and sadly, it really is that big of an issue to me. The music is pretty cool at times, especially with some really infectious keyboard lines, but the vocals just ruin it for me every time. Maybe that's the point. I don't know! It's meant to be gloomy isn't it?!It's a shame, because songs like 'Perfect Lie', 'I Regret', 'High and Low', 'I Would Know' and 'Me, Myself and I' possesses some fantastic musicianship, and has the makings of some really good tunes, but I can only take so much of Rohr's passionless singing. 'Melancholia' served as my introduction to Century, and while it's their second (and final) album, it certainly hasn't inspired me to rush out and look for their first release.

The few reviews I've managed to find give the same impression, and the couple of songs I heard on YouTube seem alright. I'll give it a chance if I stumble across it cheap, but it certainly won't be on my wishlist. Thanks for reading my review! :D

For what it's worth, I think the first album is better.
