This is somewhat unbelievable, if you consider certain Clown Alley members' future ties to indie metal mavens the Melvins, and the rabid cult worship surrounding that band and all its related tendrils; but perhaps not so unbelivable if based exclusively on Clown Alley's ultra-brief lifespan, and their almost accidental association to the mid-'80s crossover movement

Clown Alley was a 1980s San Francisco Bay area punk rock band that featured Mark Deutrom on guitar and Lori Black on bass, both of which would go on to play bass in the Melvins in the future. Say what you want, but to me this is an unsung crossover gem. It sounds as much as thrash and hardcore and it's interesting in the compositions, the delivery is even a bit math-rockish/progressive here and there, and every track is pushing to the extreme where the previous ends. It can get a bit repetitive at times, but good nevertheless. The demo was more likely simple hardcore punk with heavy metal solutions, but great also. Just discovered while i was finishing the review that Southern Lord relased the record with the demo. If you like hardcore and thrash, you must get it.
