The Very Best of Graham Parker & the Rumour. Many of the best moments of Howlin' Wind, Heat Treatment, Stick to Me, Squeezing Out Sparks, and The Up Escalator are here - "Hold Back the Night," "Hotel Chambermaid," "Soul Shoes," "White Honey," "Howling Wind," "Back to Schooldays," "Local Girls," "Passion Is No Ordinary Word," "You Can't Be Too Strong," "Mercury Poisoning" - and while there are some songs that perhaps could've snuck.

It is a loud rock album if you just sort of let it play, but if you listen closely it is something you warm up to, as if, as stated in the quote above, the band sometimes really gels. On this album they seem really in a groove. Sounding a little like a drunk Elvis Costello, GP and friends really rip through a bunch of songs that all sort of sound the same, and they all sort of sound great. Oh, and this CD contains, like, the 52nd different version of "Mercury Poisoning.

Their first, self-titled album, produced by Muff Winwood, was released early in 1978, featuring that flagship single which would become a UK hit as a reissue. The LP also contained early signature pieces such as ‘Down To The Waterline‘ and the Glasgow-born, Newcastle-raised Knopfler’s documentation of his own increasingly frequent journeys to London, ‘Southbound Again.

Telegraph Road is easily the best Dire Straits song out there. With the exception of the title track, the Brothers in Arms album is the worst album Mark Knopfler released. It shows Dire Straits producing legitimate pop music. The band's prime was its Love Over Gold album, its prog-rock effort. Want Dire Straits at their best? Look into Telegraph Road. Dire Straits' Bohemian Rhapsody. Every member of the band is at their best. A fourteen minute masterpiece worth every second of its length
