A Positive Rage is a live album and documentary double-disc set by the Brooklyn-based rock band The Hold Steady, released on April 7, 2009 by Vagrant Records.
A Positive Rage (CD). A Positive Rage (17xFile, MP3, Album, 320).
If you got into Brooklyn's the Hold Steady via their 2008 album, Stay Positive, then this is for you. First, because, if you have Stay Positive, you will have found yourself musing, "Man, this band must be amazing live," and this is a live album (plus a documentary on DVD); and second, because if you have only Stay Positive, then this live set, recorded on Hallowe'en 2007, offers a handy summing-up of the band's work on their previous three.
A Positive Rage captures the Hold Steady in a sold-out Halloween performance at Chicago’s Club Metro in support of their breakthrough Boys and Girls in America album. What matters most in a Hold Steady performance is the back-and-forth transference of energy between audience and performer. And while the audience participation is mixed down here in favor of showcasing the pure musicality and rock & roll power of the band, somehow the listener gets that the quality of this performance is due in large part to the crowd
Besteciler: The Hold Steady - Craig Finn - Tad Kubler - Franz Nicolay. You Can Make Him Like You. The Hold Steady.
A Positive Rage is not only a live album but, through a documentary style DVD, also gives fans a look behind a band that has risen from the Indie Rock underbelly to being the voice for hundreds of thousands of beer swilling men and women that are out to have a good time. Disc: 1. 1. Stuck Between Stations. 2. Positive Jam? 3. Chips Ahoy. The Hold Steady and this album in particular are a group that will make you feel young and old at the same time. Their energy and smart lyrics are so infectious, that you can't help recall the days of being 21 watching a great local bar band playing songs you love. that makes you feel old at the same time. The CD is a great representation of their live show, which is clearly not a lip sync stage show like many artists today. You can hear their energy and the nuances that make a great live show great.
The Hold Steady's first live disc (and documentary DVD), recorded in 2008 at Chicago's Metro, is a raucous 17-track scorcher that finds Finn's speedily spat monologues working surprisingly well onstage.
