The "Song of Scheherazade," really a suite for the group supported by the London Symphony Orchestra and a chorus, started with guitarist-composer Michael Dunford, who had a personal fascination with the medieval literary work Tales of 1,001 Arabian Nights, and was realized by Dunford and his composing partner Betty Thatcher, with bassist Jon Camp and pianist John Tout.
1975's "Scheherazade And Other Stories" continues the winning streak of the great band Renaissance, who effortlessly tossed off one magnificent album after another during their 70's heyday. Scheherazade" is a beautifully crafted album, expertly sung & played, filled with lush, orchestral progressive pop-rock that's guaranteed to sweep you away. There are only four pieces on the album, but they are all winners. A Trip To The Fair" is a heavenly 11-minute dreamscape.
