According to John A. Lomax in his "American Ballads and Folk Songs" published in 1934, from the song "Goin' Home"
Al Jolson (born Asa Yoelson) (May 26, 1886 – October 23, 1950) was an American singer, comedian, and actor of Jewish descent. In his heyday, he was dubbed "The World's Greatest Entertainer".
Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder. This album contains some of Jolson's greatest hits. In front of an audience he was spectular, able to make them laugh with one song and cry with another. This album highlights Jolson's voice after he had an operation that removed most of one lung that made him sing 4 keys lower than before the operation. In his prime, no other entertainer could match him.
