Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa" is a tragic tale of a fictional girl and her father who sexually molests her. The song begins with the group describing Millie: She had the curves that made you wanna take chances. I mean on her, man, I'd love to make advances. That Millie became a victim of the touchy-touchy game. Although Millie tells others about the abuse, no one believes her. Eventually she procures a gun, heads for the Macy's in which her father is working as a department store Santa, and shoots him. In contrast, the b-side, "Keepin' the Faith" is an upbeat song featuring vocals by Vinia Mojica, in which the group talks of trying to be intimate with a stuck up girl whose only concern is money.

Some fans, however, were left scratching their heads. Unbeknownst to fans, several real life stressors were at the source of the De La’s venomous lyrical content.

The core of their 1991 LP 'De La Soul Is Dead' told a story of violent abuse and murderous retaliation. And no story was more terrifying than the one they told on "Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa. The song was unsparing, a story about sexual abuse, incest, and murderous retaliation. Over a warped sample of Funkadelic's nosediving "I'll Stay" and a drum track cut from Melvin Bliss's "Synthetic Substitution," they lay the story out. Pos introduces Dillon, Millie's father, a social worker and a respected member of the community, the type of person nobody would mistake for a violent abuser. The thing doesn't unwind slowly; Pos is up-front from.
