The Science of Breath, featuring tracks culled from these records, was released in 2002 by Alien 8 Recordings; the official Polmo Polpo debut album, entitled Like Hearts Swelling, was released in 2003 on Constellation Records. He began touring under his own name, singing and playing more folk-tinged songs, initially acoustic reworkings of his Polmo Polpo recordings In 2013, songs from Impossible Spaces were remixed by Zongamin, Mickey Moonlight, Eluvium, Max Gross, Larry Gus, Le Revelateur, Imugem Orihasam, Slow Hands and Tom Croose for 12"s on DFA Records, Constellation and Phonica. Perri played lap steel guitar with Barzin in 2001 and Great Lake Swimmers from 2002-2006.

Despite the unique character of these standout tracks, an underlying foundation of murky ambience hovers nebulously throughout all eight on The Science of Breathing. This omnipresent opaqueness is somewhat unsettling despite its ambient nature and becomes most evident during the quiet transitional interludes: "High Breathing," "Mid Breathing," "Low Breathing," and "Complete Breath. The breathing motif makes the album's opaqueness even further evident, particularly since it is coupled with a haunting black-and-white underwater photo inside the album's packaging.

The Science Of Breath is a compilation of material Polmo Polpo have released over the past two years on Audi Sensa plus four brand new tracks especially recorded for this release. Like other new music entities like Apartment B and Carpark, there seems to be a slight rock influence to some of the tracks, something it seems is deeply rooted in Canadian music these days. They like their guitars, but never resort to being constrained by the conformity of the rock, indie or "post-rock" genres

Complete your Polmo Polpo collection. I prefer the technoid parts, but the whole thing is a worthwhile listening experience. Track 4 "Acqua" is absolutely amazing. The Science of Breath is a 2002 album by Sandro Perri under the name Polmo Polpo. Fusing Dark Ambient and Ambient Techno music, the record was well-received critically. It was followed in 2003 by Like Hearts Swelling. The album cover is adorned with an underwater photo of an octopus. The pieces themselves, as implied by the title and artwork, are very "watery". They make heavy use of muffled but driving 4/4 rhythms, distorted feedback, and echoing synths or guitars. In a manner akin to Boards of Canada, The Science of Breath alternates longer, more fully developed tracks with shorter ambient pieces. In this case the ambient pieces are "High Breathing", "Mid Breathing", "Low Breathing" and "Complete Breath". Each of these pieces is deeper in pitch than the last, giving the listener the impression of a deep-sea dive. The Science of Breath. Studio album by Polmo Polpo.

Like Hearts Swelling by Polmo Polpo, released 22 September 2003 1. Romeo Heart 2. Requiem For A Fox 3. Farewell 4. Sky Histoire 5. Like Hearts Swelling One of the most singular producers in contemporary music. Sky Histoire has the most overt rhythmic foundation of any Polmo Polpo track to date, anchored by brilliant interweaving bass and string lines while leaving plenty of room for guitars and keyboards to soar. The juxtaposition of melodic figures as the song hits maximum density is glorious, fittingly giving way to a reprise complete with celebratory bells and chimes.

Solid album indeed. I prefer the technoid parts, but the whole thing is a worthwhile listening experience. Track 4 "Acqua" is absolutely amazing.

This is one of the most beautiful albums I have *ever* heard. "The Science of Breath" reminds you of just that- each song is one, long, beautiful breath.
