Classic trip-hop from Kushti on their only album, SECRET HANDSHAKES. It's a mystery why these guys didn't get bigger, judging from the hazy bass of "Butta Vapour" and the piano that comes in halfway through. They can take a gentle tack, as on "Slow Lane," or just settle into a mellow groove, as on "Whistle," or relax with a bounce, as on "Coast to Coast. The cuts, double bass and flute of "No Mistakes Allowed" hit that sonic sweet spot, as does the rolling piano on "Breaking Rocks

Classic trip-hop from Kushti on their only album, SECRET HANDSHAKES. It's a mystery why these guys didn't get bigger, judging from the hazy bass of "Butta Vapour" and the piano that comes in halfway through. They can take a gentle tack, as on "Slow Lane," or just settle into a mellow groove, as on "Whistle," or relax with a bounce, as on "Coast to Coast." The cuts, double bass and flute of "No Mistakes Allowed" hit that sonic sweet spot, as does the rolling piano on "Breaking Rocks." Alice Russell brings a soulful cry to "Taking Hold, while swooning jazz is the order of the day on "Sugarbeat." "Tipivog" takes a slightly abstract route in its more spare construction, but it caps off the album well. It's a pity more people didn't know about these handshakes.
