The best known of all Czech composers and one whose enduring popularity earns him a place in the top rank of classical composers. The son of a butcher, he started out as an orchestral viola player. After Brahms recommended his music for publication he turned full-time to composing in a wide range of forms but most successfully for the orchestra and for chamber music. Of his nine symphonies the most famous, From the New World was written during his time as Director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York. His American Quartet also dates from this time.
FLOEX (Tomáš Dvořák) is a clarinetist, composer and multimedia artist from Prague. The musical nickname comes originally from the combination of the different worlds 'float', 'flex', 'experiment'. In his tracks, Floex creates a unique atmospheric universe, which explores the possibilities of the coexistence between electronic and acoustic sound worlds. There is strong emphases placed on natural musicality and humanity on one side and on cutting-edge approach to electronic music production on the other.
Antonín Leopold Dvořák (/d(ə)ˈvɔːrʒɑːk, -ʒæk/ d(ə)-VOR-zha(h)k; Czech: ; 8 September 1841 – 1 May 1904) was a Czech composer, one of the first to achieve worldwide recognition. Following the Romantic-era nationalist example of his predecessor Bedřich Smetana, Dvořák frequently employed rhythms and other aspects of the folk music of Moravia and his native Bohemia
Dvořák‘s piano quartets could almost define ‘irresistible’: filled with inspiration; their ‘Czechness’ integrated ideally with classical structures; the balance of strings and piano ideally conceived; the energy never flagging. The E flat is the better-known, but that’s not to denigrate the charm of the D major. And here they are played by musicians who empathise with every note. This Czech ensemble fills the music with airy rhythmic drive, balancing attack and lightness, melting into the soulful slow movements as well as the nostalgic ache that surfaces so often.
