Tell Me This Is a Dream is the fourth album by American soul group The Delfonics, released in 1972 on the Philly Groove label. This album introduced singer Major Harris to the lineup replacing founding member Randy Cain. Lead single "Hey Love", with its innovative and distinctive use of harmony, is often singled out as one of the group's greatest recordings, but the overall album has tended to divide opinion

The Delfonics is the considerably superior of the pair, including as it does the smash hit "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," as well as the three subsequent high-charting R&B singles "When You Get Right Down to It," "Trying to Make a Fool of Me," and "Over and Over. Unfortunately, Tell Me This Is a Dream is a letdown in comparison, probably due in no small measure to the absence of Thom Bell, who had been instrumental to the success of the material on The Delfonics as both songwriter and arranger.

A man named Stan Watson came into the barbershop one day, where William Hart, who had written quite a few songs by this point, would sing while playing his guitar. Watson told William Hart that he knew a young arranger/producer for Cameo-Parkway Records named Thom Bell, who was at the time working with Chubby Checker. Watson thereafter introduced the Group to Thom Bell. and William Hart recalls that the first song he presented to Bell was an original composition of his entitled "He Don't Really Love You". Four more Bell-produced albums appeared in the next few years: The Sound of Sexy Soul, The Delfonics Super Hits, The Delfonics and Tell Me This Is a Dream.
