Glider is a music studio album recording by FRENCH LICK (Crossover Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1976 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Only for completionists (0%).

French Lick ‎– Glider. Label: Fric Frac ‎– JP-FL-1-77. French Lick was a totally obscure pomp/prog rock band out of Fullerton, California, an LA suburb. Also this album has never been reissued, which makes the purchase of the original LP the only option to hear it on solid format, and it's not easy to find or cheap. Regardless, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's truly an obscurity worth getting. Reply See 2 replies Notify me 3 Helpful.

French Lick - Glider (1976). However, based on the pomp-rock with progressive elements, the album is surprisingly good

Glider is an EP by My Bloody Valentine, released in April 1990 by Creation Records. The EP was also the group's first release on the Sire Records label in the USA. Containing the lead single "Soon", which featured the first recorded use of Shields' "glide guitar" technique, the EP peaked at number 2 on the UK Indie Chart and the band toured in summer 1990 to support its release. An alternate mix of "Soon" was later included on the Loveless album. All tracks written by Kevin Shields except where noted.

I knew this band and their producer-engineer John Peters back in the mid-1970s. I missed their main recording sessions at his studio, JMP Studios (for John M. Peters) which he had to rename JPM Studios due to a copyright conflict, in Whittier, California. However, I did sit in on some of their overdub sessions for this album and knew Jon Willoughby and the others personally, and we went out for pizza and beer a few times in Fullerton where they were from.Needless to say, I was given a free copy of this album, which I treasured like gold, since it is excellent Progressive Rock a la YES and other British Prog acts of the 1970s, but they had their own sound and groove.I highly recommend this album, and if I can get my hands on the original recordings, I will reissue it on digitally-remastered CD.

French Lick was a totally obscure pomp/prog rock band out of Fullerton, California, an LA suburb. While the LA scene around 1976 was dominated by the mellow, soft rock sounds of the likes of the Eagles and other acts on the Asylum label, French Lick goes for that Midwestern style of pomp rock, influenced by the likes of Yes, 10cc, and the American prog scene in general. Like so many Midwestern prog bands, French Lick would record radio friendly material like "Moontune" (sounds like a pomp version of Yes, even has nice Mellotron), "Watercolours" and "Talk About Love", while "Ibiza" is a three movement suite, starts off with some interesting synth sound effects, then they do a version of Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Resolution" (but doesn't credit it as such) from 1973's Birds of Fire, before changing gear and going back doing an original. "Michael in Paris" is a nice acoustic number, a more accessible number, again showing the band's Midwestern habit of recording radio-friendly and crowd pleasing material next to more ambitious prog numbers. "Sleuth" features some rather interesting use of synths, while "Talk About Love" is one of their more "commercial" songs, but then an unexpected interesting synth solo prevents it to be just a pomp rock number, while the title track starts off with female spoken dialog before the music kicks in, in that American prog/pomp style, once again.I noticed a certain Robin Williams on percussion, but I seriously doubt it's the famous actor/comedian. Besides in 1976, the comedian wasn't even known yet (Mork & Mindy didn't premier until 1978, two years later). For a long time I was wondering why this California band sounded so Midwestern. Well they named themselves after an Indiana town, which makes me wonder if that's where they (or at least some of the members) hailed from before moving to California? That probably explains the Midwestern feel of the music. While I can't seem to dig much info on the band, I'd probably end up with more info on the Indiana town, it's apparent Jon Willoughby later performed with Stacey Q. as Jon St. James. Also this album has never been reissued, which makes the purchase of the original LP the only option to hear it on solid format, and it's not easy to find or cheap. Regardless, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's truly an obscurity worth getting.

Produced by my friend, John M. Peters, recorded at his studio in Whittier, California. Fric Frac was a name the band came up with for the label, otherwise his record label was JPM Records. He was well known in the music and media industry in the 1970s & 1980s for his Science Fiction Sound Effects records.

if i'm not mistaken, Jon Willoughby changed his name to Jon St. James, member of the '80s band(s) Q, SSQ and Stacey Q.
