Funny Girl (Original Broadway Cast Recording) is the original Broadway cast recording of the musical Funny Girl, loosely based on the life of Fanny Brice: the show opened on March 26, 1964 at the Winter Garden Theater, starring Barbra Streisand. It is considered a Streisand's album since she performed 12 out of its 17 tracks.

Sydney Chaplin, as Brice's husband, the gambler Nick Arnstein, was less impressive, with a very limited vocal range that sounded even more inadequate than usual against Streisand's remarkable instrument. Quickly recorded, the album was relatively underproduced for a Streisand recording, but it captured a fresh performance she could not recreate later.

FUNNY GIRL: Original Broadway Cast was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 2004. The GRAMMY Hall Of Fame Award was established by The Recording Academy's National Trustees in 1973 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. CD Versions of ‘Funny Girl’. Chaplin and Streisand disliked each other virtually on sight, and Chaplin saw his nominal co-starring role begin to shrink early. Stark was producing a movie at the same time, and he returned from location to find Funny Girl stalled. Revisions to Lennart’s book were incessant. But before the show went out of town, she cut a version of PEOPLE for her label. The industry norm for such records was then three minutes because radio stations resisted playing anything longer.

Funny Girl’s original Broadway cast recording album was recorded in one session, just 10 days into the show’s run. Released one week later, the album climbed to N. on the Billboard 200 albums chart, just behind The Beatles’ second album, and won the year’s Grammy Award for Best Original Cast Album. It was also the first Broadway cast album to receive an Album Of The Year nomination, and in all the years since, only one other cast album, Jesus Christ Superstar, has equalled the feat.
