Kinks is the self-titled debut album by English rock band The Kinks, released in 1964. It was released with three tracks omitted as You Really Got Me in the United States. The album was re-released in 1998 in the UK on Castle Records with twelve bonus tracks. This reissue was itself reissued in 2004 on the Sanctuary label.

The Kink Kronikles is a compilation double album by The Kinks, released on Reprise Records in 1972, after the band had signed with RCA Records in 1971. It contains thirteen non-album singles, fourteen tracks taken from five albums released by the band from 1966 to 1971 (including the UK-only Percy), and one track previously unreleased. Designed specifically for the American market, it peaked at on the Billboard 200.

The Kink Kronikles, for that matter, is more complicated an album than it might at first appear to be. Things start breaking down starting with side three, partly from incohesive programming (which is strange, because the structuring of the first two sides is superb), and partly because nothing ever catches fire. The Kink Kronikles is really not in any way representative of the Kinks’ entire aura. An album without the Kinks’ loud, chunky rock and roll is akin to an analysis of Van Morrison without any mention of Them (indeed, considered by some souls as one of the five greatest rock groups of all tim. What makes Waterloo Sunset so great is that these are the same guys who did You Really Got Me. And they still play both of these songs on stage. Unlike the Beach Boys, Beatles, and numerous others, the Kinks have never renounced one bit of their musical past.

Strictly speaking, the double-album compilation The Kink Kronikles isn't a greatest-hits collection. Covering the years 1966 through 1970, The Kink Kronikles may not be packed with hits - out of the album's 28 tracks, only nine were hits in the . yet it's a definitive overview of this era, which was one of Ray Davies' most productive (and influential) periods

The Kink Kronikles. Compilation album by. The Kinks. Some have placed this and other Davies compositions in the pastoral-Romantic tradition of the poetry of Wordsworth, among others. In his 1995 autobiography X-Ray and in subsequent performances of his VH1 Storytellers effort, Davies described the song as being inspired by a local hunch-backed gardener in his native Muswell Hill neighbourhood of North London.

Coming from a criminally underrated band, The Kink Kronikles is ground zero for anyone just getting into The Kinks. This double album is not a greatest hits collection, and with that said you won’t find You Really Got Me or All Day and All the Night blazing through your speaker. All of the material here is from their golden era of 1966-1971. Around the time of releasing the album Face to Face the Kinks had a definitive change in direction, abandoning their trademark distorted guitar sound for a more melodic complex direction
