Jam biographer Sean Egan said of the Jam that they "took social protest and cultural authenticity to the top of the charts. Start!", released before the album, became another No. 1 single. It had a very similar bass line, rhythm guitar and guitar solo to The Beatles' Revolver cut "Taxman", but was arranged as an otherwise completely different song. Some contemporary American R&B influence, including Michael Jackson, show up in Buckler's driving beats that power the album (such as on "But I'm Different Now"), and most obviously in Foxton's funk-influenced bassline in "Pretty Green".

The discography of the British band The Jam consists of 6 studio albums, 5 live albums, 14 compilation albums, 6 videos, 1 tribute album, 3 extended plays, 19 hit singles and 16 re-issues, as well as two B-Sides. The band, who formed in 1972, didn't debut until five years later in 1977, when they released their debut studio album In the City, which entered at place in the UK Albums Chart, and contained the title-track, "In the City"

Sound Affects is the fifth studio album by British rock band the Jam. The cover art is a pastiche of the artwork used on various Sound Effects records produced by the BBC during the 1970s. It is their only album co-produced by the band, and contains the only album track co-written by the entire band, "Music for the Last Couple". The album was released on 28 November 1980.

The first Album ‘In The City’ (1977) reflected the period of New Wave Punk that was happening in London at that time. Other songs on the album, which reflected Weller’s Punk influences, are the frantic 'Slow Down' and the equally fast paced 'Batman Theme'. By the turn of the 1980s, The Jam was the biggest UK Singles band. All in all they scored five number one singles, the first one being 'Going Underground' which alongside 'Town Called Malice' is arguably their most famous release. The songs were just classic pop such as In the City, Going Underground, Start! (A Rip-Off of The Beatles' Taxman), Beat Surrender and Eating Trifles (Sorry, I ment Eton Rifles!).

I‘m certain I bought a mispress of this containing Village People‘s „You can‘t stop the music“. Hasn‘t been listed on Discogs yet. I definitely bought it in 1983 and it was the 3rd pressing.
