Samuel Barnett (born 25 April 1980) is an English actor. He has performed on stage, film, television and radio, and achieved recognition for his work on the stage and film versions of The History Boys by Alan Bennett. His television performances include roles in the BBC comedy Twenty Twelve and in the Showtime drama Penny Dreadful. He played the lead role of Dirk Gently in the 2016 BBC America adaptation of the Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency book series by Douglas Adams.
Barnett recently released the first taste from her new album with single Nameless, Faceless, tackling misogyny and referencing Margaret Atwood. Limited 7″ pressings of the new single were given to independent record stores across the country last week, which were given away to fans for free. She had a hit with a cover of "Please Mr. Postman". She was also the sister of singer Christine Barnett. She died some time in early 2017. Barnett was born in Wellington, New Zealand.
Courtney Barnett was amazing to see live. She brought more feeling and expression to her live performance than you could deduce from her fabulous album. She had great rapport with the audience and was very personable.
