The albums here are all Gilberto classics, whether she's crooning in that unique voice of hers with Marty Paich, Gil Evans, Claus Ogerman, Don Sebesky - it's all great - the tunes are great and she remains unique all these decades later. I love these Verve 5 Original Albums series - nice slipcase contains mini-LP covers of all the albums, with their original back covers, too. Sound is excellent on all of them. You really can't miss with this. Includes the albums: The Astrud Gilberto Album (1965) Look To The Rainbow (1966) A Certain Smile A Certain Sadness (1966) Windy (1968) I Haven’t Got Anything Better To Do (1969). 10 people found this helpful.

Cover, Design – Michael Malatak. Cover, Artwork – Howard Terpning. Design – Knut Schötteldreier. Tracks 1-1 to 1-11 originally released as The Astrud Gilberto Album; Recorded at RCA Studios, Hollywood, California, January 27 & 28, 1965.

The Astrud Gilberto Album is the debut studio album by Astrud Gilberto. It was released via Verve Records in 1965. It peaked at number 41 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2017, NPR placed it at number 73 on the "150 Greatest Albums Made by Women" list. Astrud Gilberto – vocals. Antônio Carlos Jobim – vocals (on track 2), guitar (on track 2). João Gilberto – guitar. Joe Mondragon – double bass. Bud Shank – alto saxophone, flute. Stu Williamson – trumpet. Milt Bernhart – trombone.

The whole thing's great, stuffed with bossa classics done in English – and titles include "Once I Loved", "Aqua De Beber", "O Morro", "Dindi", "Dreamer", and "Photograph". Look To The Rainbow is one of the moodiest Verve albums from Astrud Gilberto – a set that has some surprising arrangements by Gil Evans – working here on one of his few 60s dates with a singer!
