Dexter Gordon (February 27, 1923 – April 25, 1990) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He was one of the first players of the instrument in the bebop idiom of musicians such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bud Powell. Gordon's height was 6 feet 6 inches (198 cm), so he was also known as "Long Tall Dexter" and "Sophisticated Giant". His studio and performance career spanned over 40 years.

Unlike many other American expatriates living in Europe, tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon always managed to play and record with the top musicians while overseas. This excellent sextet session (with trombonist Slide Hampton, trumpeter Dizzy Reece, pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Niels Pedersen and drummer Art Taylor) finds him exploring three Slide Hampton compositions and a trio of standard ballads. The other soloists are fine but Gordon easily dominates the set, playing his brand of hard-driving bop. Track Listing.

Love for Sale (subtitled Dexter In Radioland Vol. 5) is a live album by American saxophonist Dexter Gordon recorded at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1964 by Danmarks Radio and released on the SteepleChase label in 1979. All compositions by Dexter Gordon except where noted. Introduction by Dexter Gordon – 1:28. Love for Sale" (Cole Porter) – 13:52.

Info for A Day In Copenhagen (Remastered). A tremendous European meeting of tenorist Dexter Gordon and trombonist Slide Hampton – brought together in this impeccable sextet session for MPS – a real standout in the label's straight jazz catalog over the years! By the time of the set, Gordon had been working heavily in Europe, especially Copenhagen – a locale where he was given ample freedom to stretch out and really explore his tone and phrasing. The classic photo of Dexter at the Royal Roost in 1948 has become the iconic photo of the bebop musician and has been reprinted on album covers, t-shirts, posters, and print ads. In 1960, Dexter was approached by Alfred Lion to sign with Blue Note Records. For five years, he made on session after another, and they are all considered classics.

Dexter Gordon is one of those jazz giants I have only started looking (listening) into. They say he was influential on Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and other seminal tenorists (see Nat Hentoff's lovely liner notes), but Dexter, judging from this album, can hold his own in any company. This album is BEAUTIFUL; mostly anchored in hard-bop, but diverse, with blues, ballads and lot of drive. The band is excellent, no small thanks to Slide Hampton who played some mean trombone, arranged the stuff and wrote some of the songs
