Graham Central Station is the self-titled debut album by former Sly and the Family Stone bass player Larry Graham's new band, "Graham Central Station". In late 1972, Larry Graham quit Sly and the Family Stone because of tension between Larry and group leader Sly Stone. After agreeing to produce a band named Hot Chocolate (not to be confused with British pop band Hot Chocolate), he decided to join the band and renamed them Graham Central Station in 1973.

Graham Central Station was an American funk band named after founder Larry Graham (formerly of Sly & the Family Stone). The name is a pun on New York City's Grand Central Terminal, often colloquially called Grand Central Station.

But his former bassist Larry Graham was still going strong. Released in 1979, Star Walk was the last album that Graham would record with Graham Central Station for quite some time; in 1980, the influential singer/electric bassist officially became a full-time solo artist and soared to the top of the R&B charts with his debut solo single, "One in a Million Yo. And not until 1998's GCS 2000 would Graham use the GCS name on another album. If the name GCS had to be put to rest for a long time, at least the band went out with a bang on Star Walk. This excellent LP, which Graham produced himself, is full of sweaty, aggressive funk treasures; anyone who appreciates gutbucket funk would have a hard time not loving "Scream," "The Entertainer," and the single "(You're A) Foxy Lady. But not everything on this record is hardcore funk.

The final WB collection from Graham Central Station, STAR WALK, was released in 1979, and is a tour de force of R&B. Of course there's the gutbucket funk of such tracks as "(You're A) Foxy Lady," "Scream" and "The Entertainer," led by Larry's justly famous slap-bass work. Album of the Day. Tuesday, August 14, 2018. The bass is at the bedrock of funk, and Larry Graham is one of the instrument's greatest masters. After cutting several seminal albums with his cousin Sly Stone's band, Graham formed his own group and signed with Warner Bros.
