The band released their first recording, a novelty CD single cut in the shape of a star, in 2000. The album Planet Fame, produced by Moe Berg and Garth Richardson, followed on February 14, 2002. The 2005 album was named Instant Classic, and was produced by Bob Ezrin along with Garth Richardson. For this release the band's name was shortened to just Robin Black. They toured extensively for this release, including internationally. Frontman Robin also made an appearance on Showcase's TV series KinK.

The black robin or Chatham Island robin (Petroica traversi) is an endangered bird from the Chatham Islands off the east coast of New Zealand. It is closely related to the South Island robin (P. australis). It was first described by Walter Buller in 1872. Unlike its mainland counterparts, its flight capacity is somewhat reduced.

Released: Feb 14, 2005. This ia the newest album from Canada's own glam-rock kings. For all his new-found humility, Robin hasn't lost his cocky perspective: he's still convinced he's going to be huge. The album is a good start for the group and ends on a series of high hidden track notes, but a bit more refinement and "live" feeling is needed for future and longstanding successes.
