The ska sound of their first album No Doubt (1992) failed to make an impact. The Beacon Street Collection (1995) is a raw expression of their sound, inspired by ska punk and released independently by the band under their own record label. The album sold over 100,000 copies in 1995, over three times as many as their first album sold. No Doubt is the fifteenth studio album of the Christian rock band, Petra. It was released on August 26, 1995. The tone of the album is more pop-oriented than any previous release featuring Schlitt. Most of the rock songs lack the driving edge of their previous albums, and the sonic field is no longer flooded with distorted guitars, leaning more toward a calculated, radio-friendly sound. All the guitars in the album were played by founder Bob Hartman. Ska-Face Live in Germany 1997-03-08 released: Sushi Chick released: The Best 2000 released
Ska can be a divisive musical genre, but here are 10 albums that'll have haters skanking in spite of themselves. Ska has become really popular during three points in history, but it always seems to wear out its welcome fairly quickly. Blame the lack of subtlety built into this fast-paced, brass-powered, offbeat dance music. Born in ‘60s Jamaica, where top-rank jazz players flipped American R&B rhythms to create a jubilant soundtrack to national independence, ska ruled Kingston’s dance halls until the music got too hot-literally. That punky take on vintage Jamaican sounds inspired American bands like No Doubt and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, who became the face of ska’s third wave in the ‘90s. As the music enjoyed its brief mainstream American moment, some listeners just couldn’t stomach all the trombones and checkered outfits.
