The Reatards released two more EPs in 1998 and 1999, Get Out of Our Way and Your So Lewd, before distributing the band's second studio album Grown Up, Fucked Up on Empty Records, in November 1999. The album was as primitive, albeit more structurally sound, as Teenage Hate but came at a time that the group was competing for time with. Reatard's other side projects, most notably the Lost Sounds.
Shortly after the release of Teenage Hate, the debut album from the Reatards, an 18-year-old Jay Reatard started working on a new album. He was spitting out punk rock anthems a mile a minute at this point, so a new record made sense. And what else was there to do? He’d quit school a couple years back so a normal day for Jay meant he was bumming around midtown Memphis winding people up. At this point, Eric Friedl had introduced Jay to Meghan Smith, via mail or phone or something. And they became fast friends. They were passionate, ridiculous and utterly authentic. It wasn’t too long afterwards that he put out the equally amazing Your So Lewd single (now included on the album as well). Like everything Jay did, he did it his way. His recordings hold up because they are completely unique. He created a scene full of imitations, but no one duplicated him.

Formed in 1997 by frontman Jay Reatard (Angry Angles, Destruction Unit, Terror Visions, Bad Times, Lost Sounds and many more) at the tender age of 16. After the debut EP titled Get Real Stupid, Jay recruited bassist Steve Albundy Reatard and drummer Elvis Wong Reatard to record the full-length follow-up, 1998's Teenage Hate.
The Reatards released two more EPs in 1998 and 1999, Get Out of Our Way and Your So Lewd, before distributing the band's second studio album Grown Up, Fucked Up on Empty Records, in November 1999. When the Lost Sounds disbanded in 2005, Reatard reformed the Reatards to play live shows, and release the group's third and final studio album, Not Fucked Enough, on Empty Records. However, the Reatards broke up for the last time a year later as Reatard embarked on a solo career. When Reatard unexpectedly died in 2010 at age 29, much of his work was reissued systematically after his death, including his recordings with the Reatards.

The Reatards exploded into a fireball of guitar-powered adolescent rage on their debut album, 1998's Teenage Hate, and if they got a bit tighter and recorded themselves with a dash more care on their second album, 1999's Grown Up, Fucked Up, in neither case did it get in the way of what Jay Reatard and his bandmates did best

With Sean Redd on second guitar and Rich Crook on drums, Reatard had a pair of collaborators who were capable of keeping up with him on Grown Up, Fucked Up, which is a pretty impressive achievement in itself, but as lead singer, guitarist, main songwriter, and all-around vision guy with the Reatards, Jay was the star of this album, and he.

NotesAfter legal disputes between Empty Records US and Empty Records Europe, the EU label issued a series of "Bootleg" versions of the US releases. This version has a slightly different sleeve - EU label address and the "Bootleg" skull & bones logo on back, plus additional skull & bones stickers affixed to the record itself. The vinyl pressing itself is idenitical to the US press (besides the additional sticker on the labels).
