In My Life is a 1998 album compiled and produced by Sir George Martin. The CD is composed almost entirely of cover versions of The Beatles songs which George Martin produced originally.

Beatles producer George Martin was hanging up his earphones after several decades of making legendary recordings, and decided to make one more where he called all the shots. Settling on a selection of Beatles tunes he had originally produced, he set about pairing up unlikely accomplices with specific tunes and arrangements in mind. The results are in the true George Martin orchestrated tradition, with several interesting twists and turns along the way.

Not even worthy of being rated …Yes … there are mom and pop records, yet at this stage of my life I am far beyond being a mom or pop, leaving me to wonder exactly whom this release of various artists covering Beatles’ material selected and produced by Sir George Martin, the actual producer of so much of the best Beatles music was aimed at.Even for me, this collection of songs sung by the likes of Robin Williams attempting to sing “Come Together,” or “Here There & Everywhere” by the hard rockin’ [not] Celine Dion, or the totally unimaginable “A Hard Days’ Night” that was actually laughably done by Goldie Hawn [remember the show Laugh-In] and worthy of a scene in the Hunter Thompson movie Fear & Loathing In Los Vegas, and I haven’t even gotten to Jim Carrey’s burlesque version of “I Am The Walrus” that sent me running to the closet, covering my ears, waiting for it to be over, and when mistakenly thinking it was, only to have Sean Connery deliver of all things a spoken word rendition of “In My Life,” proving that you can never be too rich to want a bit more money. About the only artist you might expect, and who did a fine job, was Jeff Beck with his instrumental of “A Day In A Life.” I think what bothers me most, is that so many people consider this a good, or even average album, worthy of being in their musical collection, though I would like to place the vinyl in the back window of my car and watch it warp in the sun as badly as every single one of these songs is warped, misguided, misunderstood, and an embarrassing display that offers exactly nothing to the memory or merit for The Beatles.Ahhh … and if that weren’t enough, I managed to get myself sucked into watching the hour long documentary by George Martin regarding the making of this tragedy, and how he considers it a musical and production success, breathing new life into the soundtrack of my youth.Allow me to assure you, there is not one single song on this release that is worthy of your time or consideration, though scanning Rolling Stone Magazine, Amazon, and several other musical rags, I was assured that there were not only outstanding, but nothing less than stellar performances that were magically portrayed here, and even suggested that this album would find a place on my turntable time and time again. So, if you’re so inclined to venture down this magical mystery rabbit hole, I’ll leave the closet door slightly ajar, ready for your hasty escape from reality … as for me, I’ll stay far far away from this bit of musical chaos, hoping that I never get old enough to take this as anything but a first rate sham by someone who should have known much better.*** If you found this album entertaining on any level, in any manner, I can offer you the services of a Psychedelic Psychiatrist who's more than willing to allow you to make use of a comfortable leather sofa. Her office is on the west side of Penny Lane, just passed Strawberry Fields, where she will administer the proper medications to get your feet back off the ground.Review by Jenell Kesler

I loved this album when it came out. Listening back I realise that some of that was youthful folly and that some of it hasn’t aged as well as the originals. That said there are some great moments on here - here comes the sun is a good reimagining of a classic. And the Phil Collins section is great (something I’m not sure I’ve said about him before).

Nice that Streetmouse has an opinion.....shame that it is a fun-sucking miserable one. It's nice to hear songs that didn't originally have the production capabilities afforded to them in this re-work of these amazing songs. Had the Beatles still all been alive then there may have been a re-do that included them all but given that wasn't possible this was pretty much the next best thing using friends and admired stars.I rate this album a 5 out of 10 (not the best but better than the vile drubbing Streetmouse gave) and I rate Streetmouse a resounding minus2 for the valueless review!
