Album · 2016 · 5 Songs. Unlike its doom metal peers, Sumac is never drowsy. Their musical ambitions heat up Blackout, a writhing epic that occupies the overlapping territory between Sleep’s stoner metal, Sub Pop’s grunge, and Slint’s scathing math rock. What One Becomes Sumac. Listen on Apple Music.

I was never a too big Aaron Turner fan. But on this new album he grew amazingly heavy, with a band that seems to have found a seldom density. Three musicians bringing their best together. Brian Cook is known already for his talents, and drummer Nick Yacyshyn is a name better to remember from now on (what a perfect drumming!!!). Extraordinary musical aggregation with a huge scale of expression. 2016년 10월 8일. 신고. 다음 참조: What One Becomes, 2xLP, Album, Ltd, Gre, THRILL 417. does anyone know how many copies of this were pressed? 답글 나에게 알림 Helpful.

Together on their new epic double album What One Becomes the trio walk the line between chaos and control. This sophomore album sees the band take a leap forward from their debut The Deal (2015) revealing a new side of Turners combustible songwriting and guitar playing. Fans of the legendary Isis and cult heros Old Man Gloom will not be disappointed. There is a profound anxiety that leaches through What One Becomes. SUMACs choreographed structures parallel the internal and personal struggles with anxiety. They seek to identify the source, devise a course of action, and confront that condition.

Proof of the band working as one is literally the opening statement of the album; with a single hit from all three members, 'Image Of Control' aims to discard the notion that Aaron Turner is leading the show. As the song progresses, each musician is given a moment to announce their arrival, before continuing as a unit regularly.

Album: What One Becomes. Quality: 320Kbps, Lossless. Genre: Pop. Released: 2019.

As stated earlier, this sophomore album really sees Sumac as a unit come together. I absolutely loved their first release. It was massive in scope and sound. However, What One Becomes truly shines as their intended sound and delivery. It’s slower, darker and much more nuanced in terms of emotional delivery. The long, dragged-out portions serve as the perfect entree to gorge your inner Stoner Metal fiend, while the more up-tempo and traditional Turner-sound is there for those who revel in his ability to craft a universe via six strings, various pedals and guitar cabinets. What One Becomes is truly marvelous album; one that will most assuredly anchor itself on a number of top ten album of the year lists six months from now. Top Banner (photo: Faith Coloccia). Sumac don't so much write songs as a series of ideas stitched together. This is both their greatest strength and greatest weakness as a band. On the one hand, they keep you guessing as to what's coming next, which keeps your attention. And there are some seriously great passages to be found: the final two minutes of sheer brute force of "Rigid Man"; the thrashy opening of "Will To Reach"; and the groove metal vibe that kicks off the second half of "Blackout" all demonstrate that the band can create interesting music. Ultimately, the burliness and dour, uneasy nature and the top-notch musicianship throughout elevate the overall quality of What One Becomes. Even the lyrics paint grey gloom: "Tears of pain, Seem as joyous rapture, We claw, we point, At mutilated loins, Faces pushed into the soil, we are cleansed". Sumac are an original voice in metal, and we certainly need more of that.

My copy has some white smoke on the second LP (sides C and D), and I have seen this in pictures of several other copies floating around online. Is this consistent with all of the clear copies? If so, maybe the colour variant should read something like: “A/B Clear, C/D Clear w/ Smoke”.
  • Hono
My copy didn't have the white smoke. Both LPs were 100% clear, so there seems to be only a select number of copies that has the white smoke.

Looks like the clear pressing is available again on the Thrill Jockey webshop: https://thrilljockey.com/products/what-one-becomes

I've always been a great Aaron Turner "fan". And this work shows why. Fury, rage, anger - expressed in every note, in every sound, in every song. In the eighties Big Black did that to me. Now he does. This is not metal, this is not avantgarde, this is pure agression and hate. But in a positive way. Yes! This is just perfect!
  • Malanim
... but the red vinyl seems to have some sound trouble, some slight scrachty noise. Anyone else?

does anyone know how many copies of this were pressed?
  • Deeroman
Does anyone know how many copies of this exist? Mine arrived with a "limited color edition" sticker on it, but no info as to how limited it is.
  • fabscf
there's also a grey version (band edition) available at sige records https://sigerecords.merchtable.com/music/vinyl/sumac-what-one-becomes-vinyl-2xlp#.V1XuNJGLS70

I believe that is correct. It is a beautiful pressing. I just got mine yesterday.
  • Bludworm
I read that 200 of the clear Version were made. Can anyone confirm that?
  • Thomand
THX for the info! Maybe this should be posted in the nozes then.

My local record shop Plan 9 in Richmond, VA had a few copies for sale and the poly-sleeves definitely stated "clear limited to 200 copies". I'm trusting that they have the correct info, hope that helps!
