This is straight up fire. Especially the track 'Spanish Lady'. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

John Richard Handy III (born February 3, 1933) is an American jazz musician most commonly associated with the alto saxophone, although he also plays tenor and baritone, saxello, clarinet, and oboe, and also sings. This group's performance at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival was recorded and released as an album; Handy received Grammy nominations for "Spanish Lady" (jazz performance) and "If Only We Knew" (jazz composition). Handy has taught music history and performance at San Francisco State University, Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In the 1980s he worked in the project Bebop & Beyond, which recorded tribute albums to Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk

Jazz is an album by saxophonist John Handy III featuring tracks recorded in 1962 and originally released on the Roulette label. Jerry Hahn (born September 21, 1940, Alma, Nebraska) is an American jazz guitarist. Hahn studied at Wichita State University, then moved to [San Francisco in 1962, where he played with John Handy (1964–66). He toured with the 5th Dimension in 1968 and worked with Gary Burton from 1968–69. His initial career break occurred in 1965, when he played with the John Handy Quintet at the Monterey Jazz Festival, and subsequently recorded three albums with Handy. White was among the first to play the violin in avant-garde jazz, and in the late 1960s became one of the first jazz violinists to play jazz rock fusion (with his band The Fourth Way).

At Monterey in 1965, before an arena packed with 7000 people sitting in the blazing sun, Jazz saxist John Handy turned his band loose and they broke it up. They played two numbers, the performances in this album, and they were the hit of the Festival. People gave Handy a standing ovation and talked about what they had heard for weeks. Tears of Ole Miss (Anatomy of a Riot) is on the CD, but not on the LP or on the MP3 recording and is in fact from Handy’s album, New View, recorded live at the Village Gate with Bobby Hutchinson on vibes. This unusual ensemble consists of Handy, Mike White on violin, Jerry Hahn on guitar, Don Thompson on bass, and Terry Clarke on drums.
