Destroy Erase Improve is the second full-length album by Swedish metal band Meshuggah. It was released on 12 May 1995 by Nuclear Blast. This is the first studio album to feature rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström and the final to feature bassist Peter Nordin, as he left the band during the supporting tour due to vertigo
With Destroy Erase Improve, Meshuggah shattered any preconceived notions about what death, thrash, and prog metal could be with one astoundingly accurate, calculated blow. The album is a bona fide '90s classic, a record boasting ideas so well-balanced - natural yet clinical, guttural yet intelligent, twisted yet concise - it muscled simplistic subgenres out of the way and confidently pointed toward the future of metal.
Meshuggah's second album, "Destroy Erase Improve" shows exactly what Meshuggah is about: Heavy, technical, robotic riffs, and inhuman barks and growls, with subtle, yet powerfully difficult, drumming. This album created that formula, and it is their thrashiest album while still be insanely technical. From the start off song, "Future Breed Machine" to the last song "Sublevels" and the calm, jazzy interlude "Acrid Placidity" Meshuggah shows off its technical prowess.
Meshuggah's sound is complex, intricate, and jealously guards its secrets. Believe me; this will take more then a few listens to digest. The only thing that is really palpable upon first listening to this album is a sense.
Destroy Erase Improve is the second full-length album by Swedish metal band Meshuggah. It was released on July 25, 1995, by Nuclear Blast. Describing the record as "one of the 90's definitive metallic works", Kevin Stewart-Panko argues that Destroy Erase Improve's unique fusion of genres amounted to a new "watermark" for heavy metal upon its release
