In their native United Kingdom, between 1962 and 1970, the Beatles released 12 studio albums, 13 extended plays (EPs) and 22 singles. The Beatles' discography was originally released on the vinyl format, with full-length long plays (LPs), shorter EPs and singles.

The Beatles' First is the first British packaging of the 1962 German album by Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers called My Bonnie. It was recorded in Hamburg in 1961. It has been released in 1964, 1967 and 2004. On 4 August 1967, Polydor officially released the album in the UK, but with a sleeve designed by Barry Zaid and catalogue number (236-201).

With The Beatles carried on where Please Please Me had left off, melding more Lennon-McCartney originals with further highlights from their stage set. It also included the song-writing debut of their twenty-year old, Lead Guitarist, George Harrison. It was around this time that the term "Beatlemania" was first coined and this was very much in evidence when they took part in that year's Royal Variety Performance in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. If that wasn't enough they also had to write, record and promote three new 45's all of which reached the n. spot in the UK charts. The new album is a complete contrast to the Beatles' first album 'Please Please Me'. This was recorded in one day. It's a tribute to their talent that this one session has already produced two numbers which have found a place in the Top Thirty.
