Trouble" is the second song from Tenderheart that Outlaw has let fans hear early; the artist tells Rolling Stone Country that it's "the toughest song on the record. The song features the singer's signature "SoCal country" sound behind lyrics that are all about ridding life of someone or something potentially toxic. You got me in trouble again, I try to be good, but I just can't," Outlaw sings. Trouble" follows the release of "Everyone's Looking for Home," which will also appear on Tenderheart. That song's music video pulls at viewers' heartstrings, as it shows Outlaw trying to balance life as a touring musician with being a new dad (he and his wife Andie welcomed their son Leo in May of 2016). I think one of the main through lines was the heart," Outlaw says of the inspiration behind Tenderheart. I do a lot of analyzing of where I'm at. On my worst days, I give into fear, and I become someone else.
Trouble" features a driving rhythm and electric guitar reminiscent of both Patty Loveless' 90s hit "Timber (I'm Falling in Love)" with a couple dashes of John Mellencamp and Tom Petty. And that, my friends, is the kind of sound country music could use a lot more of these days. Tenderheart, due out April 14, follows up to Outlaw's 2015 critically acclaimed record Angeleno. Produced by Ry Cooder, the album introduced his unique mixture of traditional and California country. This time around, Outlaw co-produced Tenderheart with Martin Pradler
