Tomita created the album's polyphony as Carlos had done before him, with the use of multitrack recording, recording each voice of a piece one at a time, on a separate tape track, and then mixing the result to stereo or quad .
TOMITA-Kosmos (1978) Sealed RCA RED SEAL LP No Cut Out Marks. Kosmos Tomita (Cassette). Even with all this variety, the album manages to remain true to it's krautrock roots with enough oddness and spacey jams to keep the prog lover interested throughout. I don't think there is anything new here, but it is quite an impressive feat to have so much variety and still remain consistent to the genre.
Cosmos has been added to your Cart. PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION 1975 (Mussorgsky) For this album (also in the top 3) TOMITA created some of the most unusual, high quality electronic sounds ever heard. Then he used these sounds very effectively in some amazing orchestrations. The listening is as enjoyable as it is bizarre, quite an accomplishment in itself.
It is the only Tomita album that turned out really good in those releases. It's very clean and actually has almost Discrete . Channel Quadraphonic Sound. The SACD has awesome completely Discrete . Channel Quadraphonic Sound, but a lot of music from the album is missing. SPACE FANTASY 2015 (SACD DSD . Surround Hybrid) Tomita was 83 when he re-arranged and re-mixed his KOSMOS album for SACD 1. No Thus Spake Zarathustra (the 2001 Movie Theme) which had worked so well at the beginning of his Space Fantasy piece on KOSMOS.
Kosmos is a slick album of those works that translate well to Tomita's spacescapes and his visionary style. These pieces had acoustic atmospheric resonance in their original formats.
