Founded in 1973 by Helmut Schwämmlein and his father Karl, the ensemble Musica Antiqua Ambergensis specialized in the performance of early music from the period 1200-1630 in historical performance practice. It developed the Ensemble concert series Spectaculum Musicae an open concert form with a mix of historic music, dance, mime and theater. The repertoire is documented in numerous disc recordings, recordings for radio and television, and concerts at home and abroad.
