Beastwars frontman explains their album’s The Quiet Earth sample. How do you engage with the man-made apocalyptic components of the film? Because at the time it was made, the era was very nuke-y. I think you can relate to it now because an ecological disaster is happening. Obviously, right now we’re very close to nuclear war at any moment, especially with the tensions in Iran and how that could go terribly wrong, or the tensions between America and Russia, how that could go terribly wrong. Are we back into the age of the Cold War, but we’re not acknowledging it? There doesn’t seem to be the fear that we had in the 80s of a nuclear holocaust, which I find really strange. It was ever-present, wasn’t it?
Depends how annoying they are. 3. Have you ever actually beat up a five year old? Yes. Ye. 5. How many fights have you actually been in? Too many to count. No, because this isn't self-defense. This is ALL OUT WAR. 9. If need be, would you be willing to use one of the 5 year olds as an improvised weapon? Just call me Derek Jeter. Just call me Derek Jeter. Please do not call me Derek Jeter. No. 10. What age group do you fall in? 15-21.
War and Peace is considered Tolstoy’s masterwork and a significant contribution to literature, but I must admit that though I’ve tried a couple of times, I’ve never made it through the whole thing. The philosophical passages that make up much of the book are heavy going. If you have read this book, give yourself a medal and a pat on the back. You deserve it. How many words are there in War and Peace? War and Peace has 587,287 words, making it more than ten times longer than your NaNoWriMo novel
Since the time men learned to live in communities, in the remote past, wars have been fought at regular intervals in various parts of the world. In fact, the history of the human race is mainly a record of the battles and wars fought in the past between communities and nations. With the passage of time, the communities developed into nations, and wars were fought on a bigger scale; but the basic causes of war remained the same. It was only occasionally that battles were fought with other aims such as the capture of a woman to satisfy the sexual of a conqueror or ruler. However, success in wars stirred the ambition of many nations. Wars were then fought for domination and extension of power.
The plot and characters behind War and Peace are what I love most about Tolstoy’s masterpiece, and for me Anthony Briggs simply brings them out best. Do you need to agree with me on this? Not at all. I just think that anyone put off the P&V translation should think about other translations before giving up on War and Peace completely. To finish up, I still can’t get over how V&P think one man may address another as my gentle. Looking for calming books, feel-good books, or books to help you through tricky times?
