The Out-of-Towners is a live album by the jazz trio of Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock, and Jack DeJohnette, recorded in July 2001 at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and released on August 31, 2004, by ECM. "Intro, I Can't Believe That You're in Love With Me" (Clarence Gaskill, McHugh) – 12:10. You've Changed" (Carey, Fischer) – 8:13. I Love You" (Porter) – 10:00. The Out-of-Towners" (Jarrett) – 19:45. Five Brothers" (Gerry Mulligan) – 11:12. It's All in the Game" (Dawes, Sigman) – 6:47.

It's a terrific start to an album that, recorded in Switzerland during the summer of 2009, celebrates 30 years since Jarrett, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette first entered New York's Power Station studio for the fruitful sessions that yielded three recordings collected on Setting Standards: New York Sessions (ECM, 2008): Standards, Vol. 1 (1983), Changes. 1984) and Standards, Vol. 2 (1985).

They have continued to imbue the standards book with new dimensions of meaning, creating a near symbiotic dialogue in harmonic and rhythmic invention while remaining emotionally resonant. The performances on Somewhere were recorded in 2009, and are the first offerings by the group on record in four years, though they continue to play select dates annually. Peacock binds their conversation while finding his own way in and out of an implied yet never directly engaged sense of swing. The two readings of Leonard Bernstein's title track and "Tonight" from West Side Story are the scene stealers, though.

All the way to the encore, where Jarrett returns alone to the stage to perform a crystalline solo version of It’s All In The Game this is a most focused performance which must count amongst the best work from hnette, the group still known, colloquially, as the Standards trio.

Recorded in 2001 live at the State Opera House in Munich, Out of Towners features the Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette trio in the kind of performance we've come to expect from them these last 21 years: Stellar. Being one of contemporary jazz's longest-running bands has its advantages; one of them is having nothing to prove. First and foremost, this band plays standards like no one else. Given their individual careers, the members playing in a trio that performs classics carries a kind of freedom, as well as weight  . You've Changed 03. I Love You 04. The Out-Of-Towners 05. Five Brothers 06. It's All In The Game. Personnel: Keith Jarrett - piano Jack DeJohnette - drums Gary Peacock - double bass. PERFORMER: auCDtect Task Manager, ver.
