Hurricane is the tenth studio album by singer Grace Jones, released in 2008, and her first album of new material in nineteen years. Grace Jones' previous album, Bulletproof Heart, was released in 1989, and despite several comeback attempts throughout the 1990s, her next full-length record would be released almost two decades later. The singer had decided "never to do an album again", changing her mind only after meeting the music producer Ivor Guest via mutual friend Philip Treacy.
As heard on the season 2 finale of Shadowhunters. Comin' like a hurricane I take it in real slow The world is spinning like a weather vane Fragile and composed Though I am breaking down again I am aching now to let you in. Seven times it came when you were not awake Seven times the flame too much to take The sky burns red against your skin The world we know turns in the wind.

The jumpy tribal stomp on 'This Is' captures Grace Jones old familiar style of part-speaking and part-singing through the verses and chorus. Awash with pumping, pulsating rhythms that zoom in and out, there are also sporadic, sprightly guitar interludes dropped into the mix. The haunting, synchronised chanting and backing vocals proceed to give 'This Is' an intriguing atmospheric vibe. The spiritual undertones and autobiographical 'Williams Blood' blends synthesised sound effects with a smooth, contemporary R&B beat. Hurricane' then begins winding down with another mellow, late-night R&B number with a driving Jamaican vibe, 'Sunset, Sunrise'. This swirling, atmospheric number careers along at a dreamy, mellow pace, the lyrics pondering on mankind's relationship with nature.

After 19 years, Grace Jones finally released a new studio album, and it's a weird one, nostalgic and timeless in equal measure.

All the same, Hurricane is Jones' first new album in nearly 20 years. And unlike her revered early material from the 1980s, which found her reinventing and often outright owning songs by the Normal, Pretenders, Iggy Pop, the Police, Tom Petty, and Roxy Music, Hurricane features all originals, each a Jones co-write at that. Yet Jones' collaborators clearly had a notion of what songs- and what sounds- would be a good fit for her, and space-age riddims seem to be it this time around. From here on out, Hurricane is classic Jones.
