Murder Ballads is the ninth studio album by the Australian group Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, released by the record company Mute Records in February 1996. Until Murder Ballads, the body count in Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' musical canon remained fairly low. Sure, people died casually sometimes, usually at a rate of one per song as on ‘Saint Huck’, but this catalogue of 75 human deaths and one dog perhaps does require you to believe that death is not the end, that there are still possibilities after the final curtain. Cave hasn’t to my knowledge ever killed anyone, and you can say the same about the majority of gangsta rappers too – they live after all in a country where the threat of a trip to the mercy seat is all too real. Both the gangsta rappers and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' grisly depictions and evocations of death and murder reveal that their authors are merely avenging angels (who believe that all things move towards their inescapable ends) of the imagination.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 9th album, Murder Ballads, released on February 5th, 1996, was a huge commercial success for the Australian crooner Nick Cave, who continues to accumulate accolades for each album he and his band release to this very da. Peaking high in various countries’ charts, Murder Ballads easily is Nick Cave’s best known album. While not necessarily reaching the emotionally disturbing depth of some its predecessors, the record has a charm of its own as being one his most elegant pop moments-especially with Where The Wild Roses Grow which has become a classic track of the modern age. We tip our hats to the noble Mr. Cave’s damn fine 9th album. Aging pretty well-just like the Cave-Man himself.

Song Of Joy (2011 Remastered Version) by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. Some how this album of murder ballads misses the point of murder ballads. I don't understand how someone can make a classic like Stagger Lee tedious.
