Driving Rain is the twelfth studio album by Paul McCartney. The album was recorded and released in November 2001 as a double LP and as a single CD. Clearly determined to follow the example of Run Devil Run's brisk making, Driving Rain – except for two songs – was cut with David Kahne co-producing in two weeks, starting in February 2001 and with a set of new musicians whom McCartney intended on backing him on tour

This album is a little bit of a voyage into the unknown, is how Paul described 2001's Driving Rain.

For Paul McCartney, Driving Rain completes the trilogy he began with Flaming Pie, in retrospect a warm tribute to his dying wife, and continued through the storming rock & roll of Run Devil Run. The first found Macca writing some of his most affecting songs while he returned to his musical standbys - charming folk, layered pop, and amiable rock & roll. Then, with Run Devil Run, he retreated even further, finding his love for piledriving, uncompromising rock & roll

DRIVING RAIN is the first studio of fresh Paul McCartney songs since the 1997 release of 'FLAMING PIE'. This new album doesn't ressemble any previous record composed by Paul. and this Macca's exploration of new areas results in a wonderful masterpiece which is one of his best. Unsurprisingly, Driving Rain is heavily influenced by both the death of Paul's beloved wife Linda and his new relationship with Heather Mills whom he got engaged to earlier this year. The album opens to the mournful strains of Lonely Road, which begins: " I tried to get over you/ I tried to find something new/ But all I could do/ Was fill my time/ With thoughts of yo. The track is a stiff-upper-lip song about perseverance that gets the album off to promising start, his sound toughening up, then the end of the song sliding into a hymnlike ballad.

Driving Rain marked McCartney's first full album of new songs since the passing of his wife, Linda. Gratifyingly, it's also by turns mature, musically restless, and personally reflective, and ultimately an album that stands as one of his best solo efforts. There's a renewed sense of emotional connection throughout, reflected in efforts that seem to address his own personal tragedy. The CD includes the bonus live track 'Freedom', his simple anthem to the events of September 11, 2001, and their historic aftermath. Driving Rain- Yes, you have heard there is the 12345 couting part. Besides that, the song is excellent. Very pop oriented and his vocal is great.
