save (something) for a rainy day. To reserve something, especially money, for use in a time or period of unforeseen difficulty, trouble, or need. Fig. to reserve something-usually money-for some future need. save for a rainy day. Provide contingency funds for when times are tough. There's no clear answer to when this expression began (some have traced it back to the 16th century), but it's clear that a rainy day is the symbol of gloom. The wise course, therefore, is to sock away funds to tide you over when times are tough.
The day is cold, and dark, and dreary; It rains, and the wind is never weary; The vine still clings to the mouldering wall, But at every gust the dead leaves fall, And the day is dark and dreary. My life is cold, and dark, and dreary; It rains, and the wind is never weary; My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past, But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast, And the days are dark and dreary. Be still, sad heart, and cease repining; Behind the clouds is the sun still shining; Thy fate is the common fate of all, Into each life some rain must fall, Some days must be dark and dreary.
When lyrical genius Dylan released the song in 1962, everyone thought it was just a metaphor for a nuclear fall out. Turns out, it’s just about hard rain, not atomic rain. The Beatles – ‘Rain’. While musically they were pushing the button – this is the first song to ever feature backward vocals – the lyrics don’t push the envelope quite so much, according to Lennon: it’s about people moaning about the weather all the time. Liam Gallagher is a big fan of this track – Oasis were originally called The Rain, before Noel hopped on board.
When I was young, we always had to do without a lot of things that other kids ha. e lived with on my dad’s wage, which wasn’t much, but we managed to get b. f we needed anything, we would save up for it, but there was never very much for luxuries
When I was older I was a sailor on an open sea But now I'm underwater And my skin is paler than it should ever be Hmm. I'm on my back again Dreaming of a time and place Where you and I remain the best of friends Even after all this ends Can we pretend? I'm on my, I'm on my back again It's seeming more and more Like all we ever do is see how far it bends Before it breaks in half and then We bend it back again
