The Ultimate In High Fidelity.

Rhapsody in Blue is one of Gershwin’s signature compositions. Remove the piano from Rhapsody in Blue, and you have the essence of An American in Paris, composed just a few years after the Rhapsody. Once again, Gershwin, a superb songwriter, gave a fabulous melody orchestral life. And once again, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Erich Kunzel perform as though the jazz idiom is their home turf. This album is a perfect way to begin a small collection of Gershwin works. The performances are magnificent, and the non-remastered analogue sound is Telarc at its best. How could you possibly go wrong?

Thanks to Sony, its Great Performances series now includes a classic that many will remember vividly - due in great part to its iconic cover photograph - and which some will recall fondly as their first introduction to Gershwin's entertaining work. Presented here with a bonus recording of Gershwin's Concerto in F, performed in 1960 by pianist André Previn with Andre Kostelanetz and his Orchestra, the package is practically irresistible for any Gershwin fan who wants a maximum return for the affordable reissue price.

Rhapsody in Blue is a 1924 musical composition by the American composer George Gershwin for solo piano and jazz band, which combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. The composition was commissioned by the bandleader Paul Whiteman. It was orchestrated by Ferde Grofé several times, including the original 1924 scoring, the 1926 "theater orchestra" setting, and the 1942 symphony orchestra scoring, though completed earlier

The otherwise unknown conductors and pianist point to the "Austrian Symphony Orchestra" credit also being dubious.
