Jeanette MacDonald, Maurice Chevalier - 3 Classic Movie Musicals - Love Parade / One Hour With You / Love Me Tonight download mp3 album
Maurice Maurice Chevalier. Princess Jeanette Jeanette MacDonald. Viscount Gilbert de Varèze Charles Ruggles. While One Hour With You certainly gets mileage out of Paris, Mamoulian is clearly pushing the scale. Let’s take the latter first, which stretches the movie from the crowded streets of Paris to a remote castle and the distance between. Love Me Tonight is a treat for classic movie fans, a fantasy that is romantic enough for the film lover while being technical enough for the nerds among us. But most of all, it’s a refreshing bit of early 30s optimism, a glimpse into an era between the wars where nobility still seemed noble and a throwback to the pre-Depression faith where life’s possibilities seemed endless.

The Love Parade is a 1929 American pre-Code musical comedy film, directed by Ernst Lubitsch and starring Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald, involving the marital difficulties of Queen Louise of Sylvania (MacDonald) and her consort, Count Alfred Renard (Chevalier). Despite his love for Louise and his promise to be an obedient husband, Count Alfred finds his role as a figurehead unbearable. The supporting cast features Lupino Lane, Lillian Roth and Eugene Pallette.
Jeanette Anna MacDonald (June 18, 1903 – January 14, 1965) was an American singer and actress best remembered for her musical films of the 1930s with Maurice Chevalier (The Love Parade, Love Me Tonight, The Merry Widow and One Hour With You) and Nelson Eddy (Naughty Marietta, Rose-Marie, and Maytime). During the 1930s and 1940s she starred in 29 feature films, four nominated for Best Picture Oscars (The Love Parade, One Hour with You, Naughty Marietta and San Francisco), and recorded extensively, earning three gold records. She later appeared in opera, concerts, radio, and television.
Renowned as a silent film pioneer and the man who refined Hollywood comedy with such masterpieces as Trouble in Paradise, The Shop Around the Corner, and To Be or Not to Be, Ernst Lubitsch also had another claim to fame: he helped invent the modern movie musical. With the advent of sound and audiences clamoring for "talkies," Lubitsch combined his love of European operettas and his mastery of film to create this entirely new genre.
