Nashville Skyline is the ninth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on April 9, 1969, by Columbia Records as LP record, reel to reel tape and audio cassette. Building on the rustic style he experimented with on John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline displayed a complete immersion into country music

When John Wesley Harding was released I must admit I was disappointed with it. A lot of the songs sounded, well (dare I say it?) unexciting. But three songs stood out: I’ll be your baby tonight, All along the watchtower, and above all, Drifter’s Escape, recorded on October 17, 1967. The music of Drifter’s Escape is so simple. Just two rotating chords and two short lines of melody, alternating. The world is just going round and round and round – and that is the triumph of the music, that never varying pair of lines and rotating bass. The music rotates as the drifter’s world rotates. Oh, help me in my weakness I heard the drifter say As they carried him from the courtroom And were taking him away My trip hasn’t been a pleasant one And my time it isn’t long And I still do not know What it was that I’ve done wrong.

Bob Dylan's 'Blonde on Blonde' Album to Be Feted at Nashville Event. He’d been flirting with country music for a few years, but this is the album where Dylan fully embraced the influence of Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. The sound was Nashville, and I was so glad, says Charlie McCoy, who played bass on the album. He and drummer Kenny Buttrey were joined by other top Music City session players, including guitarist Charlie Daniels and pedal steel master Pete Drake, for a colorful full-band sound. We just take a song, Dylan said of the laid-back sessions

In short, John Wesley Harding echoes a feeling of ancient wisdom tuned in to Dylan's own timeless genius - a mixture left unrivalled by his peers or anyone else for that matter. 9 people found this helpful.
The sparse, opaque poetry of John Wesley Harding flows easily into the sincere country clichés of Nashville Skyline, while New Morning feels like a more personal balance between the other two albums. Most Dylan fans will have long ago picked up all three of these, but for those who didn’t, here they are.
